TUNKUN PALM

Palms fill Malaysia, from rural Kampongs to the metropolis of Kuala Lumpur. The palms that surrounded my childhood home made beautiful shadow shapes on the floors and walls while shading us from the hot sun, as expressed in this design of interlocking leaves with changing hues and shades. Many of Malaysia’s royal states are named after palm species to honour the plant’s rich cultural heritage; the word Tunkun means Royal.
